At The Soul Food Shack, we serve up the best local soul food made fresh from high quality homemade recipes. That’s been the whole idea since day one.
The recipes came up from the South with our family — Louisiana on one side, Mississippi on the other — and they’ve been cooked in Los Angeles kitchens for three generations. The greens are still cleaned by hand, three times. The mac and cheese still goes in the oven, not on the stove. The cobbler crust is still rolled out every morning.
We started in Inglewood and opened our Gardena kitchen when the lunch line started going out the door. Two locations, one menu, the same people behind it.
Made Fresh
Nothing frozen, nothing from a can. If it’s on the steam table, it was made this morning.
Homemade Recipes
Family recipes, measured by feel. We wrote them down once for the new cooks. Nobody uses the paper.
Our Community
We feed a lot of repasts, church anniversaries and school fundraisers. It’s our favorite work.
